Proposals for a new Aldi store in Newtown

Aldi, the award-winning discount food retailer, is bringing forward proposals for a new, high-quality food store on land off Pool Road in Newtown (currently the Greenhous Ford Car Dealership).

The scheme would provide an attractive, modern Aldi food store in a convenient and accessible location for the residents of Newtown, keeping more spend local and representing a multi-million-pound investment in the area. A new store in this location would improve customer choice and reduce the need for customers to travel further afield.

If the application receives planning permission, the proposal would create up to 40 new local jobs at the store, which will be paid at an industry-leading rate of £9.10 per hour as a minimum. There would also be further employment opportunities during construction and via the supply chain.

As part of the statutory consultation process, Aldi triggered the 28-day pre-application consultation period on Monday 02 December 2019 for this proposal.

You can read detailed information about the proposals as well as the draft planning documents on the Documents and Downloads section.

Aldi will submit the planning application to Powys County Council in early 2020. We look forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback on our proposals.
