Aldi announces consultation for Newtown store plans
Monday 02 December 2019
Aldi, the award-winning discount food retailer, is preparing plans to bring a new, high-quality food store to Newtown.
The proposals will see the site, currently the Greenhous Ford Car Dealership on Pool Road, transformed into an attractive, modern food store, with 104 car parking spaces including dedicated disabled and parent-and-child parking along with electric vehicle charging points.
The new food store would not only represent a multi-million-pound investment to the area but would also bring 40 new jobs for local people paid at an industry-leading rate, as well as further employment opportunities during construction and the supply chain.
As part of its commitment to community consultation, Aldi welcomes the local community to a public exhibition to display its vision for the site:
On: Wednesday 11 December 2019
Between: 3pm and 7pm
At: the Function Room, Elephant & Castle Hotel, Broad Street, Newtown, SY16 2BQ
Members of the project team will be available to talk through the proposals, answer questions and receive feedback from the local community.
A spokesperson for Aldi said:
“We are delighted to announce our plans to open a new Aldi food store in Newtown. We know that many of our customers travel to our store in Welshpool– a local store in Newtown will mean saving money as well as travel time.
“We are excited to bring our award-winning products and fresh produce to the community, improving customer choice and creating much-needed local jobs.
“We want to hear from local people before we submit a planning application in early 2020, and encourage residents to meet us on Wednesday 11 December at the public exhibition to find out more.”
